Wonderly is an audio fiction service run by one person. This page describes everything it stores about you, why, and how to get rid of it. If something here is unclear, write to info@wonderlyseries.com and you will get an answer from a human.
What is collected
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | It is your account. It is used to send you sign-in links and codes and, if something goes wrong with a payment, to contact you. |
| Sign in with Apple or Google | If you use them: the account identifier and verified email address Apple or Google returns, so the same person reaches the same account. For Apple, a token kept only so the link can be revoked when you delete your account. |
| Sign-in codes, links and sessions | To keep you signed in. They are stored as one-way hashes, never as the value sent to you or held on your device. |
| Saved shows and listening position | So a chapter resumes where you left it, on any device you sign in from. |
| Listening position without an account (website and apps) | The first three chapters need no account. Where you stopped in them is kept on your own device only, and is added to your account if you later sign in, so you carry on from there. |
| Free listening used today | To give you free minutes on later chapters each day: the minutes used today, your device’s offset from UTC so they reset at your midnight, and which chapters you heard on them. |
| Shows you follow | When you choose Notify me or Remind me: so you hear when a new chapter or a new show comes out. Coming Soon shows show how many people are waiting, as a number only, once it reaches twenty. |
| Notification token (apps) | If you allow notifications in the iPhone or Android app: the push token your phone gives the app, and the app’s language, so new-chapter notifications reach that phone. It is removed when you sign out on that phone, when the phone stops accepting them, or when you delete your account. |
| New-chapter emails (website) | If you follow a show on the website, at most one email a day about new chapters of the shows you follow, in your language. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can turn them off in Account. |
| Genres you picked | Up to three, if you choose them, to put those rows first. Kept on your device, and on your account when you are signed in. |
| Playback events, such as starting a chapter | To know which stories people finish. These are counts, not a profile, and they are never sold or shared. |
| Your coin balance, coin purchases and unlocked chapters | To know what you can play. Purchases are checked with Stripe, Apple or Google; card details never reach Wonderly. |
Nothing about you is sold or rented, ever, by anyone.
Advertising measurement, on the website only
Wonderly advertises in the United States. To know whether those adverts reach people who actually listen, this website loads the Meta pixel for visitors Cloudflare reports as being in the United States, and for nobody else. If you are anywhere else, no tracker is loaded and nothing on this page talks to Meta.
Where it does load, it records that a page was viewed, that a chapter was started, and that a chapter was finished, that the sign-in sheet was shown, and that someone signed in or created an account (with which method: Apple, Google or email). It is never told your email address, your name, or which account you are. Meta may connect these events to an account you hold with them, which is what an advertising pixel is for, and is the reason it is limited to the country where we advertise.
The iPhone and Android apps contain none of this. No pixel, no analytics SDK, no advertising identifier, no third-party tracker of any kind. The apps talk only toWonderly.
Your browser’s Do Not Track or tracker-blocking settings are respected by default, because a blocked pixel simply does not load and nothing here works around that.
Who else processes it
- Cloudflare hosts the service and stores the database and audio. Its edge keeps short-lived operational logs.
- Resend delivers sign-in emails and new-chapter emails. It receives your email address and the message.
- Expo (650 Industries) relays new-chapter notifications to the apps, through Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging. They receive the push token and the notification text, never your email address.
- Apple and Google sign you in if you choose them (on the website, their sign-in scripts load only once you open a sign-in, never with the page), and process coin purchases made in the iPhone and Android apps, under their own privacy policies. Wonderly receives a purchase record to verify, never your payment details.
- Stripe processes coin purchases on the website. It receives your payment details directly; Wonderly receives only an account reference and the payment result.
- Meta receives advertising measurement events, from this website only, and only from visitors in the United States. See above. It never receives your email address or your account.
How long it is kept
- Sign-in links and codes expire fifteen minutes after they are requested and are single use. Their records are cleared within a day.
- Sessions expire thirty days after their last use.
- Account data is kept until you delete your account.
- Purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require, by Wonderly and by Stripe, Apple or Google.
Deleting your account
On the website open Account, or in the app open Profile, and choose Delete account. It asks you to confirm, then permanently removes your email address, sign-in links to Apple or Google (revoking Sign in with Apple), sessions, saved shows, followed shows, notification tokens, email and genre choices, listening progress, free listening time and playback events. Unused coins are lost. Purchase records are kept only as tax rules require. This is immediate and cannot be undone. You can also ask at info@wonderlyseries.com and it will be done for you.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what is stored about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, by writing to info@wonderlyseries.com. Requests are answered within thirty days. Wonderly is operated from Quebec, Canada, and data is stored on Cloudflare infrastructure in North America.
Children
Wonderly is written for adults and is not directed to children. Accounts are not knowingly created for anyone under 16.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that affects what is collected or who processes it, the date above changes and anyone with an account is emailed before the change takes effect.
